Celebrating 250 Years of Courage
By Anna
July 22, 2026

As our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, I’ve found myself
thinking less about fireworks and more about the people who helped
build this country.

Our Founding Fathers weren’t afraid to challenge authority. They
believed that when something mattered, you showed up. You made your
case. You fought respectfully, lawfully, and with conviction. They
understood that democracy isn’t something you watch—it is something
you participate in.

Many of them also recognized the value of hemp as an important
American agricultural crop. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson
both cultivated hemp because it was essential to the economy and
everyday life of early America. While our industry has evolved
dramatically over the last two and a half centuries, the spirit of
American agriculture, entrepreneurship, and innovation remains very
much alive.

That spirit is exactly what I witnessed this year here in Massachusetts.

When our industry was faced with one of the most significant ballot
questions in its history, a remarkable group of attorneys stepped
forward to ensure every legal avenue was explored. They challenged the
certification process. They presented thoughtful legal arguments
before the courts. They dedicated countless hours researching,
writing, preparing, and advocating—not for personal gain, but because
they believed our industry deserved to have its voice heard through
the legal process.

The outcome wasn’t what many of us had hoped for.

But that isn’t why I’m writing this.

I’m writing because courage isn’t measured only by the final score.
Sometimes courage is simply having the conviction to stand up, even
when the odds aren’t in your favor. Sometimes it means doing the hard
work because it’s the right thing to do, regardless of where the chips
may fall.

As someone who has had the privilege of working alongside so many
incredible people in this industry, I believe gratitude matters. It is
easy to celebrate victories. It is just as important to recognize
those who step forward during the difficult moments.

To every attorney who gave their time, expertise, and passion to this
effort, thank you.

Thank you for the late nights.

Thank you for the strategy sessions.

Thank you for asking the difficult questions.

Thank you for ensuring that our industry had every opportunity to be heard.

Your work represented thousands of cultivators, manufacturers,
retailers, testing laboratories, delivery operators, employees,
patients, consumers, and small business owners across the
Commonwealth. Whether people realize it or not, your efforts mattered.

I’ve always believed one of the greatest strengths of the
Massachusetts cannabis community is that, when challenged, people come
together. We may not always agree on every issue, but we care deeply
about this industry and the people whose livelihoods depend on it.

This legal effort reminded me of that.

It reminded me that our community is filled with people willing to
volunteer their time, share their expertise, support one another, and
fight respectfully for what they believe is right.

Now, as we move toward November, the responsibility shifts to all of us.

The legal chapter may be closing, but the public conversation is just beginning.

Every one of us has an opportunity—and I would argue, a
responsibility—to help educate our friends, families, neighbors, and
communities. Not through fear. Not through anger. But through
respectful conversation, facts, and a willingness to listen as much as
we speak.

That is how democracy works.

That is how lasting change happens.

As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, let’s remember
that our country was built by people who believed participation
mattered. They believed difficult conversations were worth having.
They believed the future was shaped by citizens willing to become
involved.

Those principles are just as important today as they were in 1776.

So today, I simply want to say thank you.

Thank you to the attorneys who stood beside our industry.

Thank you to the advocates, business owners, coalition leaders, and
countless volunteers who supported this effort along the way.

Your work honored one of the oldest American traditions—the belief
that every voice deserves an opportunity to be heard and every lawful
path deserves to be explored.

Now it’s our turn.

Let’s continue having respectful conversations.

Let’s encourage informed voting.

Let’s support one another, regardless of our differences.

And let’s continue building a Massachusetts cannabis industry that
future generations will be proud to inherit.

Happy 250th Birthday, America—and thank you to everyone who continues
to believe that showing up, participating, and serving something
bigger than ourselves is still worth fighting for.
